What is SkyEye?
SkyEye is a division of Line Design Technology Limited. Founded in 2010 as a technical consultancy offering survey and design services to the UK electricity industry, LDT has established itself as a market leader in the utilities sector. SkyEye represents our aerial mapping and inspection division that has embraced drone technology as a means of complimenting our traditional survey offering.
What is a drone?
Drones are more formally known as Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS). Essentially, a drone is a flying robot. The aircraft may be remotely controlled or can fly autonomously through software-controlled flight plans in their embedded systems working in conjunction with GPS. RPAS have most often been associated with the military but they are also used for search and rescue, surveillance, traffic monitoring, weather monitoring and firefighting, among other things. In the UK there are strict rules governing who can fly them and where they are allowed to operate.
Who can fly a drone?
Anyone is able to fly a drone with a little practice. Modern electronics and flight control algorithms have made drones very simple to operate. However to operate a drone for commercial gain a drone pilot needs a permit to conduct aerial work from the Civil Aviation Authority – Without a permit no commercial activities can take place.
What do we use drones for?
SkyEye has invested in custom built aerial mapping and inspection platforms. Our drones carry digital cameras that capture high resolution images. We use photogrammetry to process those images in to detailed orthographic images and digital terrain models.
What makes you different from the rest?
We are a well established company with a proven track record of delivering excellent service at a reasonable cost
"LDT have undertaken topographical surveys and aerial surveys, whilst acting as a sub-consultant to Jacobs, All these surveys were successfully completed by LDT. I consider that they displayed professionalism, conscientiousness, and technical expertise in the performance of their duties"
Chief Overhead Line Engineer - Jacobs UK
"I requested an inspection of an inaccessible sewer pipeline at Llangollen. LDT very professionally came to my office and gave a presentation on the services they offer. They also undertook all the ground work required to get this project completed. I was constantly updated throughout the whole process and would not hesitate to use their services again."

What Accreditations do you have ?
My goal, when starting SkyEye was to blend new technology with our wealth of experience in surveying and mapping.
Our mapping rig is custom built to an exacting specification. After months of research and testing we believe our drone is the best platform for aerial mapping and survey. Based on an all carbon fiber frame with an advanced flight controller capable of autonomous flight, we are able to cover larger areas quickly and safely collecting high quality images that are processed using the latest advanced photogrammetry software.
We also have available drones specifically configured for remote inspection.
Construction sites change rapidly, from initial ground works to the finishing touches on a new office complex.
It can be hard to keep track of all the changes as the works progresses. Documenting the changes and ensuring an accurate as-built record can be a real challenge.
Drone technology is the ideal solution to recording and documenting the construction process.
Our remote aircraft can be deployed to site at short notice and fly to predetermined waypoints that allow for repeat flights to be conducted ensuring an accurate record is maintained of site activities.
Gaining a higher perspective can help a developer or project manager have a greater understanding of the project as a whole and enable effective communication of key changes to the project plan.
Our pilots are available for hire at short notice throughout the UK.
Our aerial inspection services are much safer than working at height.
Your staff can keep their feet firmly on the ground and let one of our drones take on the challenge of seeing those difficult to reach areas.
A drone is very easy to deploy and is much more cost-effective than traditional methods.
They really are ideal for remote inspection.
Aerial data can be a valuable resource for archaeologists to help them determine the best place to concentrate their efforts, to help catalogue and preserve our history.
By gaining a higher perspective, areas of interest can be located in an efficient manner with the minimum of disturbance to the landscape.
Using photogrammetry we are able to produce highly detailed three dimensional models that enable archaeologists to make decisions based on reliable information.
All our data is collected in a digital format that is easy to share with the end user and can be incorporated within the users existing IT arrangements.
Drone technology can bring real benefits to modern farming, by allowing the rapid collection of up to the minute aerial data.
Remote aircraft can be deployed to monitor crop growth and map out areas of interest, to enable better utilisation of resources.
Our aircraft are able to fly predetermined waypoints to ensure full coverage and repeatable results over time.
Remote aircraft can provide farmers with three types of detailed view.
First, seeing a crop from the air can reveal patterns that expose everything from irrigation problems to soil variation and even pest and fungal infestations that aren’t apparent at eye level.
Second, airborne cameras can take multispectral images, capturing data from the infrared as well as the visual spectrum, which can be combined to create a view of the crop that highlights differences between healthy and distressed plants in a way that can’t be seen with the naked eye.
Finally, a remote aircraft can survey a crop every week, every day, or even every hour. Combined to create a time-lapse animation, that can show changes in the crop, revealing trouble spots or opportunities for better crop management
Our quality management system is certified by British Standards Institute to ISO9001
We are certified Constructionline members.
We are a B1 Verified suppler listed on Achilles Utility Vendor Database
We have been audited and approved by Supplier Web
We hold a permit for aerial work granted by the Civil Aviation Authority
We are members of ARPAS the trade association of the drone industry
We are approved operators on DroneList & the DroneSafe Register
We are also proud to be RoSPA members
