This 3d model of Trevor Quarry was produced using photogrammetry software from 79 images. A UAV octocopter was used to collect the images from and altitude of 200ft. The camera used was a Sony A5000 and the images were processed in pix4d to produce a point cloud with over 20 million points. Average ground sampling distance for the point cloud came out at 1.68 cm.
These models are ideal for measuring the volume and shape of quarry's and landfill sites.
Using a drone, large areas can be surveyed quickly and safely, saving time and money over traditional survey methods.
